Kámea Németh is a queer Brummie/Hungarian composer, singer, music director and artist based in Manchester. They are known for trying things differently and often work in a whimsical, maximalist playground, inviting their audience to join in the fun. They like colours, chaos and slight discomfort, present in the stories they choose to tell. Their work explores themes of nostalgia, time, and dissociation woven together with elements of Hungarian folk and electronics.
Through singing, Kámea has worked with composers such as Laurence Crane, Liz Dilnot Johnson, Kuba Williams, Emily Dunbar and Ro Shapes Tickle. They also perform as part of the experimental electronics performance art group MASSSIVE NUN, run a multi-genre new gig music festival CURIO, and are one of the co-directors of the new music open-score flexi-ensemble, hispid.
Kámea’s previous commissions include writing for Ventis Vocal X Valette Ensemble, Suzie Purkis’ PACE New Music, the Manchester Contemporary Orchestra and Cardinal Quintet. Foden’s band and the RNCM big band have also performed their work, and they have arranged music for Hetta Falzon and the RNCM Session Orchestra. Their installation, Garden Escargot?, was highly commended in the 2026 RNCM Composition Artist of the Year Competition, and they are one of the recipients of the 2026 RNCM Creative Innovator’s Award for their music festival, CURIO. Their future projects include running CURIO 2027 and writing a piece for Ella Laughton’s Uplift concert series.
Kámea has been a classically trained mezzo since the age of 8 and was taught by Suzie Purkis. They joined the ExCathedra Junior and Senior Academy in 2013 and have enjoyed opportunities, including performing in the Nutcracker, Carmina Burana and having the solo role of Sankta Lucia in the annual Sankta Lucia concert (2021). They are now a trainee with ExCathedra’s Singing Medicine team. During their time at the RNCM, they were a member of the RNCM chamber choir and, through this, have worked with Clod Ensemble, Kantos and Edvard Grieg Korene.
Kámea will soon be graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music, having studied composition with Laura Bowler and Andy Scott for three years, followed by Larry Goves and Sam Salem for one year as part of their undergraduate degree
